Guangzhou = Haven of Thieves

My bag was ripped open
Before I moved to Guangzhou for my new assignment in December, friends had warned me the place is full of pickpockets and snatch thieves. One cannot be too careful with his wallets and valuables. These scums will slit open your bag and snatch the phone from your hand. These low-life slimes are mainly migrants from other poorer provinces and even foreigners. (In Shanghai I encountered one who claimed he was from Syria and tried to steal my wallet )

Yesterday I went Chinese New Year shopping with my wife in the busy Zhou Hai Plaza district. I bought several packs of yummy goodies and of course plenty of pDVD's. We stuffed all them in my most favorite traveling bag.

But when we reached home in the evening, to our horror, we saw the side of the bag was slit open However, luckily nothing dropped out or lost because the bag was tightly packed like a solid rock with all the new year goodies (that goes to show how my wife shops ) Other than my prized pDVDs, there was nothing valuable as I keep cash and phone closely in my jacket.

I suspect it must be the two scums at the dry fruit store - a foreigner and a local pretending to be the interpreter. The lady storeowner signaled me to move away from them when they squeezed near me. May these two scambags drown and rot in the Pearl River for ruining my most favorite bag

ZhiYen Temple is at the entrance of JiuHua Street. Nearby is the bus station from where we took the bus downhill to the main entrance and home.

This 4D3N trip cost about 2,500 yuan all in for two of us (Hotel cost 1,000 yuan, food 700). For comparison, a 3D2N packaged tour from Shanghai by road cost only 600 yuan per pax inclusive of the 140 yuan main entrance fee. Food and others on your own, 2-star accomodation.

After hiking 3 hours from mountain top we reached the Ming Yuan scenic area at the foot of TienDai Mountain. We encountered a blind guy climbing the mountain, incredible!

We chose to hike down from TienDai Temple instead of taking the cable car. Took us nearly 3 hours and resulting in 3 days of muscle pain, but worth every bit of it .

The Mid-way Temple on the cliff at TienDai Mountain. Unfortunately the waterfall was not flowing today due to recent dry spell.
